Fifty nine birth advocates from 20 states and Canada
including, Alaina Kerkhove and Debbie Pease
representing SDSCO, met in Chicago the weekend of
November 9 - 11, 2007. They enthusiastically shared
experiences and resources relating to licensing Certified
Professional Midwives. Participants included
representatives from national organizations including the
National Association of Certified Professional Midwives,
the North American Registry of Midwives, the Midwives
Alliance of North America, the International Center for
Traditional Childbearing and Citizens for Midwifery, as
well as delegates from state organizations striving for
CPM licensure comprised of midwives, mothers, doulas,
doctors and others.
