July 1st personal contacts made with candidates

August Choose main sponsors for bill
2nd personal contacts made with candidates

September Draft of Bill Completed
3rd personal contact made with candidates
September 25 Registration Due for Birth
Conference

October 4th personal contact with candidates
Oct. 13 & 14 Birth Conference in Watertown Area

November 5th personal contact with candidates
November 7 Election Day
November 15 Deadline for Articles to SDSCO newsletter

December 1 Newsletter sent out
Begin contacting Health & Human Services committee members & winner of the Governor’s race

January 9 Legislative Session begins at noon
January ? Everyone needs to contact their own legislators & the
governor as soon as we get a bill number
Begin face to face lobbying in Pierre (please consider bringing a group from your district)
January 25 Last Day to Submit Legislation
January ? Senate Health & Human Services
Committee Hearing
? Need people to attend hearing & some to testify
? EVERONE call & email committee members the day before

After we pass committee, EVERYONE will need to contact (calls & short emails) their Senators before the Senate votes on our bill.

After the Senate passes our bill, it goes to the House Health & Human Services Committee Hearing

After we pass committee, EVERYONE will need to contact their Representatives before the House votes on our bill

After the House passes our bill we will need EVERYONE to write or call the governor (who has the power to veto our bill or sign it into law). The Governor has 5 days to sign a bill if the legislature is in session (15 if they are in recess). It takes a 2/3 vote of both houses to override a veto from the Governor.
